Overview
MOTS-c (mitochondrial open reading frame of the 12S rRNA type-c) is a 16-amino-acid peptide encoded within the mitochondrial genome, one of a small class of mitochondrial-derived peptides discovered to act as cellular signaling molecules.
In preclinical research, MOTS-c is studied for its role in metabolic homeostasis, including AMPK-pathway activation, glucose handling in muscle-cell models, and the cellular response to metabolic and exercise-mimetic stress.
